AmiGuruMi - Yarn Art

Last Friday one of my friends (in a non profit organisation NASAM) made these adorable & "midnight oil burning" cute figurines frm yarn - as souvenirs for our students' farewell.

Aren't they all so adorable? Apparently , she can also make them in the shape of Bunny, Octopus, Penguin, etc.

If you are interested to purchase, please leave a note here to place your order frm Nasam Perak Needle Wrk Club.

Each figurine is RM15 (postage excluded)= proceed will go to NASAM Perak.

Here are some facts for you to know more about this art:

Amigurumi
(From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

Amigurumi (編みぐるみ?, lit. knitted stuffed toy) is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small stuffed animals and anthropomorphic creatures. The word is derived from a combination of the Japanese words ami, meaning crocheted or knitted, and nuigurumi, meaning stuffed doll.[1] Amigurumi are typically animals, but can include artistic renderings or inanimate objects endowed with anthropomorphic features.[2]

Amigurumi have no practical use; they are created and collected for aesthetic reasons.[2] The pervading aesthetic of amigurumi is cuteness. To this end, typical amigurumi animals have an over-sized spherical head on a cylindrical body with undersized extremities.

An online fad for creating and collecting amigurumi began in 2003.[3] By 2006, amigurumi were reported to be the most popular items on Etsy, an online craft marketplace, where they typically sold for $10 to $100.[3]

Amigurumi are usually crocheted out of yarn using the single crochet stitch. They can also be knit. Typically, crochet hooks or knitting needles that are slightly smaller than normal are used, in order to achieve a tight gauge that retains stuffing.[4] Stuffing is usually standard polyester or cotton craft stuffing, but may be improvised from other materials.[4] Plastic pellets may be inserted beneath stuffing in order to distribute weight at the bottom of the figure.[4]

Amigurumi are usually worked in sections and then joined, except for some amigurumi which have no limbs, only a head and torso which are worked as one piece.

My Son's Artistic Creation From Sponge Paper

One day, our 1st twin wanted to make some extra pocket money and asked us how to go about it.

We shared with him about Warren Buffet(The 2nd richest man in the world)and his inspiring words and some of his good principles in life. Among which are:

1)Teaching Kids to invest at young age

2)Encourage kids to start some kind of business (Buffet bought a small farm at age 14 with the savings he got frm delivering newspaper)

After hearing the above, our 1st twin started making some sponge paper penguins from his own ideas. Take a look:

(A vast variety of penguins in different actions & designs )

Then he sold them from prices of 50 cents, 60, cents , 80cents and RM1 -depending on the difficulty to make the penguin & amount of effort put in)

Thumbs up to our enterprising boy!!

Creative Cooking- MILO Fried Chicken

The other day, I ran out of butter ingredient for my Fried chicken & I decided to come out with whatever that is available.

Hence: MILO Fried Chicken

Quite easy to prepare. Just marinate the chicken with the usual salt & pepper. Then scoop in some MILO milk powder and mix well. Then just dip in all purpose flour for deep frying. For extra crisp..just add a bit of baking powder.

My kids love the taste. The MILO aroma when you are frying the chicken really enhanced their appetite !!

Easter Egg-straordinary crafts with stroke survivors

Bckdated post: 10April 2009

During recent Easter, I spent about 1 hour teaching some STROKE survivors to make figurines from eggshell for EASTER celebration.

Here's the outcome:

Really glad to see these strokees using their Right brain & coming out with great creative ideas to decorate their egg shells with a littl bit of help of course (due to their functional impairment of their weak hands after STROKE).

Artistic Vase

These vases are just made from hard cardboard, decorated with natural ingredients like red beans, maize & green beans as well as 1cent coins.

Nice and pretty?

Had this as a art & craft project for Mother's Day with a group of strokees in a local Stroke Centre last year.

Do u have any other cool & easy art craft projects to share with these group of strokees? Your comments are appreciated.
